When I was 20, I was doing everything I could just to get by. I had a toddler on my hip and a full-time job I had to show up for. I remember searching for a daycare—not because it aligned with how I wanted to raise my child, not because it matched my values, but because I needed somewhere to take her so I could survive the day.
I didn’t ask, “Will this shape her view of safety? Will this place speak to her needs?” I didn’t have the margin to think that far ahead. I wasn’t thinking about the big picture. I was thinking about survival.
And I forgive that version of me.
Because she was doing her best with what she had.
Because sometimes, just making it through the day was the victory.
Because she didn’t yet know there would be a future where things could feel different.
Now, I live in that future.
I’m not saying everything is easy. But I’m no longer operating from panic or pressure. These days, I pause before I say yes. I consider not just what makes today easier, but what makes tomorrow more whole.
I zoom out.
I ask:
“What kind of life am I quietly building?”
“What will this choice echo into our future?”
“What kind of legacy does this moment whisper into my home?”
That one shift—from surviving the day to crafting a foundation with care—changed everything.
It’s the reason I make my own salad dressings.
The reason we prioritize presence over performance in our parenting.
The reason I built Home Hair Care Academy the way I did—not as a band-aid, but as a system. A rhythm. A legacy.
I don’t take any of it for granted.
Because I know how it feels to be in the thick of survival, and I know how tender the journey is when you start to crawl your way out.
If that’s where you are, you’re not behind.
You’re not late.
You’re not broken.
Even considering a different path is an act of healing.
And I’m cheering for you every step of the way.
